Often our daily lives are spent solely in the world inside our smartphones. So I wish to create an experience connected with nature and outside of the screens. 

I want to share the joy of the enchanting beauty of ceramics born from nature. Earth and water are the roots of nature, touched by wind, thirsted by the heat of the sun, and turned into pottery by fire. It is incredible and simply inspiring to see soft clay transform into beautiful pottery. The experience of witnessing the feel, the colors, and the wonder is about 10,000 times different than just seeing the final product. It changes the world you see so much that every cell in your body is reborn. Your imagination expands and it’s mind-blowing. 

The world of ceramics is beautiful and interesting - it is very enriching to have vessels that come from nature in our daily lives. I want to share that joy with you all.

Foreigners are welcome to attend. We are English friendly. 

Coexist in harmony

In Japan, there is a culture of enjoying the pleasure of eating "rice from the same pot.“ It means working and getting to know the stranger that you meet that day. By sharing a meal from the same pot no longer makes you strangers, but someone you shared a special moment with. 

We will hold a workshop where participants can enjoy making pottery and musubi. Although they may be young or old, male or female, and in different positions and languages, it will be a place where everyone feels joy by being both a producer and consumer. 

It is one of my favorite activities to make a space where people with different backgrounds can share a creative time using ceramics.

Contents

Using a hand wheel, each participant will create a piece of pottery. Please spend ample time with clay in a relaxing and comfortable atmosphere.
You will enjoy making Musubi with freshly made rice cooked . Three kinds of ingredients for Musubi and miso soup are included.
After the meal, an electric pottery demonstration will be held.
Your work will be completed to you in about a month. (If you wish to have it shipped, shipping fee will be charged separately.)

What is Omusubi?

Omusubi (or Onigiri) is Japan’s favorite comfort food. Often called a "rice ball," it consists of steamed white rice shaped into a triangle or cylinder and usually wrapped in a sheet of seaweed (nori).

Why You’ll Love It:
The Fillings: Hidden inside the rice is a savory surprise! Common fillings include grilled salmon, pickled plum (ume boshi), or tuna with mayo.

The Ultimate Snack: It is the Japanese equivalent of a sandwich—portable, healthy, and perfect for a quick lunch or a picnic.

Fun Fact: The word omusubi comes from the verb musubu, which means "to tie" or "to connect." It’s often seen as a symbol of human connection and care.

In the morning, you will each create a piece of pottery.
First, you will learn how to make it, then receive advice on how to create what you want to make.
For lunch, we will make and eat "omusubi," a Japanese home-cooked dish, together. It will be a very relaxing time.

Price includes:  one piece, materials, firing and finishing costs, and apron rental.
What to bring: Nothing. Please come empty-handed.

Please note: Long nails can make working difficult, so it is a good idea to keep them short.

Completion Time: 1-2 months
The pottery you have shaped will be carved, glazed, and fired in the studio to complete the piece. It will be ready for delivery approximately one month later. (Domestic and international shipping available upon request; shipping fees apply.)

Cancellations:
made after 3 days prior to date of workshop will be subject to a 50% cancellation fee.
